The first weekend of September in Detroit runs Thursday, September 3 through Saturday, September 5, and the calendar is heavier than usual for a holiday week. Here are six picks from our events listings, from the Opera House downtown to a soccer match at Keyworth Stadium.

The week opens with a pop show in a room built for opera, and the pairing makes sense for an artist whose work is as orchestral as it is electronic. Keyworth has one of the better atmospheres in American soccer outside the top flight, thanks to a supporters' section that sings for the full ninety minutes. Freedom Hill turns around from Friday's show for a Saturday evening with O.A.R., a band that has been a summer-shed regular long enough to earn a thirty-year tour name. It is an easy, early start, the kind of show you can bring the whole family to and still be home at a decent hour.
